Hachiko was a very special film for me went beyond the left lung where the heart.This is a dog that came from China who met his master who was a music teacher who lived in the city, the professor took the dog home.This has grown over time and gradually the professor and his family are very fond of so much Hachico better known as "Hachi" fua to leave his master to the train station every day and then when I was about to arrive I went to find the train station until one day the teacher making classes died of a heart attack and never returned and estubo Hachiko waiting all day until he died.

French tourist Fabio di Petrantonio’s plans to kayak through the glacier region came to a sad end Friday afternoon, when his kayak overturned in Canal Beagle. The 32-year-old died from hypothermia.
Bad weather was to blame. Waves overturned the kayak, di Petrantonio fell into the water, and was dead when his traveling companion, Williams Odot, 37, found him.
The Chilean navy, alerted by satellite telephone, picked up di Petrantonio and Odot and took them to Puerto Williams, where Odot was hospitalized. On Saturday, Puerto Williams authorities began working with the French consulate to return di Petrantonio’s body to France.
After years of developing research on specialty seafood (specifically, the Chilean Abalone known as Los Locos), marine conservation, and sustainable fishing management, Universidad Catolíca Professor Juan Carlos Castilla has been awarded the National Award in Applied Science.
Castilla received his doctorate in science from the University of Wales, and has published over 150 research papers in numerous academic journals, including the Information Science Institute. He has also provided a strong voice in creating important marine management reserves.
Castilla has spent 27 years working in Las Cruces of the Valparaiso region - one of four protected marine reserves. His research has been vital to the development of the Fisheries Act, legislation designed to sustainably manage ocean fish resources.
Despite involvement in the Fisheries Act, Castilla says he would like to see more of his work end up in the hands of those who create laws and public policy. "There's very high quality scientific information available, and the idea is that the state should recognize this and calls upon neutral expert groups in these topics, absorb their knowledge and convert it into important elements of public policy," he said.
He also mentioned the importance of improving scientific flow of knowledge to school children in Chile, in order to push farther ahead into the future.
President Sebastian Piñera’s unilateral decision early last week to pull the plug on the US$1.2 billion Barrancones coal-burning power plant is supported by 67 percent of the population, according to a La Tercera poll published this weekend. Only 29 percent of respondents opposed the President’s action.
The poll also found that 52 percent of the population hopes the President will take similar action to stop the controversial Castilla coal-fired energy plant, slated for construction on the northern coast near Copiapo.
The no-longer-to-be-built Barrancones coal burning plant, owned by the French- Belgium Suez Energy company, was to have been located close to an internationally acclaimed marine and penguin reserve. It drew fierce opposition from local residents, from Chile’s ever-growing environmental community, and from international NGOs.
Regional environmental authorities gave Barrancones the green light Tuesday, August 31 – a decision that prompted thousands of Chileans from all across the country to take to the streets in protest. Anti-Barrancones demonstrations occurred in Santiago, Talca, Concepcion, La Serena, Coyhaique, Temuco and Curico.
President Piñera then spoke directly to Suez Energy, asking the company to “relocate” the project, given its proximity to the marine and penguin reserve, and the great popular resistance to the project. Suez Energy said it would withdraw its plans for Barrancone.
The President’s opposition to Barrancones and his willingness to by-pass Chile’s weak institutional safeguards scared Chilean business leaders, worried that the same fate might befall another 12 coal or diesel burning energy plants now on the drawing board across the country.
To counter this concern, Piñera lunched last week with nation’s top businessmen – mostly leaders from the Sofofa business lobby – to assure them that the Barrancones decision was “exceptional” and that other coal and diesel powered energy investments would not face the same fate (ST, Sept. 2).
But that same afternoon, several hundred demonstrators marched in downtown Santiago to protest the US$4.2 billion Castilla coal-burning plant, to be located near the city of Copiapo in northern Chile.
The Copiapo Valley, very close to Castilla, is home to the nation’s early table grape deal. Chile is the world’s leading grape producer, exporting millions of cases each year. The fruit industry is especially sensitive to pollution and green house gas issues, given the exigencies of foreign markets and their upscale consumers.
The La Tercera poll also found that most Chileans share the view expressed by the nation’s environmental community. Eighty percent of those polled said Chile should be turning to renewable energy resources and moving away from dirty, coal-fueled energy production (supported by 3 percent) or out-of-date hydroelectric dam projects (supported by 8 percent). Poll respondents held firm to their commitment to renewable energy – even when pollsters suggested that their position might lead to power shortages or higher energy prices.
Support for the controversial HidroAysen project was measured at a tepid 26 percent, while 65 percent of those polled opposed the project. HidroAysen, owned by an Italian energy conglomerate, seeks to build five dams in Chile’s Patagonia and then ship the power 2,000 kilometers north to Santiago.
The La Tercera poll also confirmed waning citizen support for nuclear power: 22 percent favor construction of a nuclear facility in Chile, while 74 percent oppose. The result marks a strong drop in support for nuclear energy, which had been measured at 55 percent in 2006.
The La Tercera telephone poll of over 500 people was taken in 92 cities across Chile on September 1 and 2. It has a statistical margin of error or 4.3 percdent.
